From award-winning firebreaks deep in interior Alaska to federal transportation and emergency management programs — NHE has a record of delivering.
NHE delivered 1.8 miles of community-protecting firebreak around Nulato village over nine weeks, earning the inaugural BLM Alaska Good Neighbor Award — a recognition of the exceptional partnership and execution that defined this project.
The project deployed a 15-member crew of locally hired Koyukon Athabascan workers, combining federal land management standards with deep community knowledge to protect homes, infrastructure, and cultural sites from wildfire risk.

Why NHE
Based in a Historically Underutilized Business Zone, NHE qualifies for federal contracting preferences — giving government clients a compliant, competitive procurement option with meaningful community impact.
As an Alaska Native-owned business and registered Small Disadvantaged Business (SDB), NHE meets qualifications for preferential contracting under multiple government programs — at no cost to project quality.
NHE has longstanding partnerships with tribal entities, Alaska Native Corporations, and Village Corporations across Alaska — enabling effective collaboration on community-focused projects with unmatched local knowledge.
Our team includes Edward George and Adolph McGinty with over 60 combined years in wildland fire management, Howard Darling with 22 years in government and defense contracting, and Steve Roberts with 26 years in construction.
Interior Alaska is not a foreign environment for our crews — it is home. We mobilize quickly, operate efficiently in off-grid locations, and deliver results where outside contractors struggle with logistics and cost.
Every NHE contract is an opportunity to train, employ, and mentor tribal members. Our mission extends beyond business — every project contributes to the long-term sustainability of the Nulato Hills Region.
